Trekking & Rafting
We will leave Salta city at 07:00 AM. After 2 hours’ driving, we will pull over right at the beginning of the mountain road in order to take a local bus (Salta-Cachi). The bus will take us to the top of the mountain road at 3348m above sea level and we will start trekking downhill for about 7 hours. I will give you the opportunity to enjoy impressive landscapes such as the popular 'Cuesta del Obispo'. At 1000m, we will take a snake-like road that will later lead us to an incredible craggy canyon which is the ideal habitat for the local avifauna. On the way, we will visit a small cave with paintings and if the weather allows us, we might be gifted with the majestic flight of a condor over our heads. No special physical training is required for this activity since the whole trek is downwards. Once in the vehicle, we will continue our way to a small town of Cachi where we will spend the night at the local hotel.
We will continue our trip in a 4x4 vehicle along the Route 40 to the south of the valley. We will go through another charming town called Secantás in order to get to the natural pond of Brealito at 2700m. We will walk 3 hours around the fantastic lake which is surrounded by mountains, huge rocks and cactus; then, we will be back in the truck to drive into the towns of San Carlos and Cafayate, crossing the amazing Quebrada de Las Flechas (Arrows gorge). In Cafayate, we will stay at a city hotel.
From Cafayate, we will go driving through Quebrada del Rio Las Conchas on a paved road that still offers many places to pull over and we will be able to take great shots of the strange rock formations and multicolored mountains. Then we will get to the big valley again where Salta city is located but before that, we will go to Juramento Canyon for rafting (2 hours descent) and after the rafting activity, we will eat a BBQ and return to Salta city. NOTE: if you are not interested in rafting, we can go and visit Quilmes Ruins, 54 kms away from Cafayate where we will hike for 1 hour and then we will return to Cafayate in order to continue our trip to Salta.
